SIDI are once again revolutionizing the world of motocross with their new high-end Atojo SRS motocross boots, which have just been released.
All the key features in all SIDI’s existing boot range carry over into the Atajo, which is a name founded by an acronym that represents three of their MX SIDI Champion riders: "A” for Alessandro Lupino, "TO” for Tony Cairoli and "JO” representing Jorge Prado, all of whom were essential in the development of the boot, working with SIDI’s technicians on the design and features
The distinguished SIDI cam lock buckles and straps are of course present, plus a wide calf opening and compatible interface with knee braces that works for every rider. Their distinctive Atojo SR Hinge System improves their existing ankle protection system and their new dovetail sole with the innovative and patented interlocking system will keep the Atojo boot performing every time, enhanced by their new lightweight system with each pair of boots tipping the scales at 1/2Kg lighter than their Crossfire 3, and 1cm lower.
We take a look at the good bits.
Atojo SR Hinge System:
For ease of movement, the Atojo SRS has a hinge system with two flex points: The first hinge is positioned under the ankle, to reduce thickness and make the boot smoother on the inside and more aerodynamic overall. Ankle support bracing inside the boot allows for only a limited range of movement to prevent hyper-extension of the ankle, the instep and the Achilles. The second flex point, above the ankle, works in sync with the lower hinge and improves the flexibility of the boot. Bending in the boot is a fluid movement without compromising rigidity and lateral protection.
Three anti-hyperextension systems are in place with the Atojo SRS Boots. Aside from the innovative SR Hinge System, a second feature on the back of the boot actively limits excessive rearward flex. The third anti-hyperextension system is frontal and allows only a specific range of tibia flexion. The system uses a replaceable guide that is anchored to the hard PU toe box to freeze the foot if excessive movement is reached.
Technomicro Upper with High Impact Reinforcement:
The full boot upper is constructed of Technomicro, which is a composite microfiber material created from strands that are so fine, each one is less than one thousand the thickness of silk. These fibres act like natural leather skin, but with the advantage of better strength, softer texture and lighter weight. Technomicro is also water resistant, highly resistant to abrasion and tearing and is easy to clean and maintain.
3 Buckle Closure:
Atojo SRS uses a 3 levers closure that work independently of each other, each composed of a toothed strap and a hook with micrometric adjustment memory. The levers have only one fixing point (through a screw) and this allows an easy closing allowing the boot to adapt to the position of the rider and to provide greater comfort. The upper part of the boot has a Velcro closure with a soft rubber end, which allows a wide adjustment and to defect debris away from the lower buckle, a spoiler has been added and once the buckles are set, there is no need for readjusting each wear.
Dovetail SRS Sole System
The SRS (Sole Replacement System) interchangeable sole has an innovative design and a revolutionary replacement system. Design and technology are patented by SIDI. The soles base, or boat, features a more aggressive look and is slightly higher for greater engagement with the upper. The tip and heel are fixed, while the central part, subject to greater wear, is replaceable. The tip has a special design with traction grooves for greater grip, also ideal for Enduro. The heel area has a fixed insert in soft PU that makes the boot more stable and offers increased traction against the bike. The central part of the sole is made up of a rubber insert studied with a new interlocking Dovetail system and 4 screws for easy replacement. Functional design for motocross.
Adjustable Calf System:
SIDI's exclusive double-adjustable calf plate system allows the rider to adjust the inner diameter of the calf. This system, along with longer upper straps, allows the Atojo Boots to accommodate riders with larger calves much easier. The inner plate is made of two different materials: a rigid one to support the boot and a heat resistant one to protect the rider's leg from exhaust heat.
The Atojo SRS plastics all have a new design. The toe of the boot is entirely wrapped in a plastic protection enhanced with a geometric design for greater grip. The boot is equipped with protection on the metatarsus: a rigid and replaceable nylon insert protects the inside of the boot in case the rider’s foot slips off the foot peg. The PU heel is shaped and specially moulded to improve foot safety in case of torsional twists and is shaped to ensure comfort and stability, and the ankle panel with the central strap can be replaced by 4 screws that connect it to the boot.
The SIDI Atojo SRS offers a fresh design, which is light, sleek and good looking, giving the rider excellent control. It’s collaboration of innovative creations presents the perfect mix of durability, functionality, comfort, and protection that any rider can ask for. It’s a thumbs up from us!
