Protecting Your Motorcycle

If you want your new motorcycle to run smoothly for longer, you need to know the important elements of motorbike care. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also improve its second-hand value if you decide to sell it in the future. It’s also very important to ensure your safety on the road.

Cleaning your motorcycle regularly or even after every ride is important in having your motorcycle last longer. You can wash your motorcycle with a pressure washer or with a bucket of water and soap. A pressure washer will remove heavy dirt a lot easier than cleaning your motorcycle by hand.

If you are doing beach/sand riding it is important to immediately wash your bike once you are finished riding to avoid salt corrosion.

Maintaining Your Motorcycle

Maintaining your road or off-road motorcycle is the key to a having a long lasting and top performing motorcycle. Below we go through 9 steps to make sure your motorcycle is up to speed and ready for its next ride.

  1. Walk Around - have a quick walk around of your motorcycle and look for any loose bolts or anything that looks unordinary.

  2. Battery - It is always important to have a good working battery in your motorcycle. There is nothing worse then planning a road trip away on your bike and to wake up to a flat battery. If you don't run your motorcycle all that often, make sure the battery is plugged into a charger so that it doesn't go flat.

  3. Tyres and wheels - You want to make sure your tyres and wheels are in good working order. No flat tyres and no loose spokes.

  4. Filters - Make sure to change your oil filter every time you change your oil. Also want to make sure your air filter is clean and not dirty or dusty. If your air filter is dirty it won't allow air flow to your engine, and may send through unwanted particles.

  5. Final Drive - It is also very important to check on your chain and sprockets. Make sure that your chain is tightened properly, and that your sprockets are not worn out.

  6. Brakes - Very important tip is to make sure you have brake fluid, enough meat left on your break pads and that your rotors aren't warped to provide you with easy and smooth braking.

  7. Fluids - Make sure you have enough coolant, oil, brake fluid, and most importantly fuel.

  8. Controls - Make sure your starter switch (if you have one), and kill switch are in working order as well as your signals and any other control your bike may have.

  9. Final Check - And to finish it off you should have a triple look over your bike to make sure everything is in working order, ready for your next ride!
